A Simple Philosophy – Fish!

Over the years, travelling internationally and working with elite athletes, senior leaders and high-performing teams, I have often been asked a deceptively simple question.

“What practical ideas actually help teams perform better, day to day?”

One philosophy that has consistently resonated across sport, business and hospitality environments is the “Fish” philosophy.
It is not a complicated academic theory. Yet when applied with intent, it can have a powerful impact on engagement, trust, energy and ultimately performance.

In a recent article I wrote for the League Managers Association Magazine, I explored four practical psychological principles. These are principles that leaders and teams can use immediately:

• Being fully present with colleagues and team members.
• Creating small moments that lift the working day.
• Injecting appropriate fun and playfulness into performance environments.
• Taking personal responsibility for attitude and emotional tone.

These ideas may sound simple. However, research and applied performance psychology both suggest that small behavioural shifts in these areas can significantly influence motivation, confidence, learning, and collective effectiveness.

I would be delighted if you could take a few minutes to read the full article here:

If the themes resonate with you or your organisation, I would welcome a conversation about how these concepts can be translated into practical strategies through keynote sessions or team workshops.
