Brentford FC - Season 2001/2 and 2002/3
When Steve Coppell took charge of Brentford FC at the start of the 2001/02 season, he brought in Roberto Forzoni as first-team coach and reserve team manager. Together, they transformed a young and ambitious squad. Brentford pushed hard for automatic promotion. On the final day, they needed a win but drew 1-1 at home against Reading. That result sent Alan Pardew’s side up instead. Refusing to give up, Brentford entered the play-offs determined to succeed. They reached the final at the Millennium Stadium but sadly lost to Stoke City.

The reserves, incidentally, had their best season in 70 years. A highlight was that every sub was used for at least 20 minutes during the season. The team developed true flexibility in formations, having tried every strategy possible at one stage or another!
